Less than 24 hours of opening up the official SCEA Playstation.Blog John Koller Sr. Marketing Manager, PSP has debunked the PSP Slim and PSP Phone rumors. Here is what he had to say:
The rumor mill is flowing about new PSP hardware and a PSP phone, and I just wanted to take the time to clear the air. We haven’t announced anything about a new PSP, much less one that would have any phone capabilities. As SCEA’s resident PSP guru, I’m thrilled to hear that there’s so much interest in the platform, but sorry folks, these reports floating around fall into the rumors/speculation category.
Oh well thats sucks. Personally I don’t think the PSP needs a redesign. It’s fine as it is. It just needs more awesome games and PS Network integration. 🙂

Kotaku has posted some interesting info on a redesigned PSP, supposedly hitting shelves this August or September. It will be unveiled at E3, and will feature a slimmer design, better battery life, 8 GB flash memory, revamped buttons, and hopefully be priced at under $170. Rumor for now, but if it’s true, I’m picking up one of these!
Back in March, we brought word of a new and improved PlayStation Portable. But what good are the rumblings of new hardware without some of the details? Today, thanks to several sources close to Sony, we bring you that nitty gritty as the redesigned Playstation Portable nears completion.
Keep in mind this isn’t Playstation Portable 2, but rather a redesign of the original, so it will be sporting the same internal hardware. But that’s about the only thing that hasn’t changed. The new Playstation Portable will have a much slimmer design, thanks mostly to a new LED screen that will deliver an ultra-crisp image but take up far less space. That LED also helps pump up the battery life of this sexy new model, which can last as much as four times longer than the original PSP. While the new PSP still makes use of the UMD drive, it will be a faster version and to help speed up loadtimes and gameplay, the portable will come packed with 8GBs of internal flash memory. Finally, the PSP’s much maligned buttons have been revamped and the D-Pad has gotten a major overhaul, giving portable gamers something more like a Playstation 3 D-pad to play with.
The company is still trying to decide whether or not they want to include a built-in camera, as they weigh whether the cost of adding the device will be worth the benefit to gamers. Our money is on no camera because of the competitive price issues. Those of you holding out for a touchscreen are, unfortunately, going to have to wait, though word has it that it will most like make an appearance in Sony’s next portable gaming device. While the new PSP will remain black, Sony is still trying to decide whether it will have a glossy or matte finish.
The final price for this new PSP hasn’t been set, but Sony is hoping to sell it for under $170 or so. Manufacturing should commence in the upcoming weeks, and the product is going to be officially unveiled at this year’s E3. The sale date being tossed around is August, but don’t be surprised if it’s pushed back to September. What’s this reworked PSP called? It doesn’t have a name as of yet, but may we suggest “PSP Slim”?

Add this one to the rumor bin. According to Stupid Gamer Incog Inc. and Sony are going to go their separate ways.
According the post Sony hasn’t been very happy with Incog Inc. lately and they will split once Warhawk is completed. And Sony is looking to form a new studio with people from Incog Inc. that choose to stay at Sony.
So do you all think this rumor is True or False?

The guys from 1UP.com are back with another awesome 1UP Yours Podcast. Here are the details for this weeks show:
1UP Yours – Podcast – 04/06/2007
Garnett and Shane return from Japan, sadly without any sweet flowers of Nihon. But they did bring back some impressions of the Japanese gaming scene, while the rest of us brought back Shawn Elliott to talk with Epic Games’ Tim Sweeney and Mark Rein about what’s going on, really, with Games for Windows Live (according, of course, to Epic). “What good would Xbox Live be if only half the games supported it?” Good question, Mr. Rein.

I know this is old but I didn’t post about them when they came out.
1UP Yours – Podcast – 03/30/2007
With Garnett and Shane on a goodwill tour in the Far East, John and Luke turn to GFW’s Shawn Elliott and Gamevideos’ Mark MacDonald for commentary on the week that was. And what a week: reactions to Microsoft’s new “3l33+” SKU (as well as Luke’s “controversial” price analysis), Mario and Sonic realize the dreams of millions of fanfic scribes, Shawn griefs some war veterans, and why is Luke not impressed with the GTA IV trailer? Listening: It’s good for you.

EGM LIVE* – Podcast – 04/02/2007
Join the EGM editors as we talk Forza 2 with the game’s Community Manager (and former EGM/1UP editor) Che Chou. Che tells us all about the latest developments on Forza 2, possible downloadable content, how he thinks his game compares to the competition, what it’s like working at Microsoft, the history of the “Che Flop,” and lots more. We also tackle reader mail about crappy Wii ports, game industry lingo, and sending videogames back in time. Plus, a Che-related trivia question for this week’s contest.

We’ve been hearing about the rumors for a while, but it seems like they are a reality. Swedish magazine Game Reactor’s magazine cover for April features our favorite hero, which pretty much confirms what we’ve been hoping for all along. The catch is, it doesn’t say anything about which system it is for, but most of us speculate it will be for the Wii. Hopefully we get more info on this soon. Here’s a picture of the magazine cover:
